Amadea paints with her entire being. Her large-scale, expressionist works are emotional landscapes—layered, scraped, stained, and collaged into existence.
Lifestyle
-
My paintings are born in the studio, but they are nourished by a life lived with curiosity, passion, and a sense of adventure. The places I have lived and traveled to, the things I love, and the experiences that have shaped me have all found their way into my heart and into my work.

The work begins with movement and material. Pigment, paper, fabric, weathered surfaces, and spontaneous marks gather into richly layered compositions.

Riding Horses
-
I began riding horses when I was five years old in Kenya, outside on the deep red earth, under the vast African sky.. Horses gave me a taste of freedom at a very young age and have been a source of inspiration throughout my life.
There is something profoundly satisfying about being with these magnificent animals — the quiet communication, the trust, the awareness, and the shared rhythm and movement.

Riding requires presence, listening and attunement. That sensitivity is something I bring into my painting practice. I have travelled to a number of countries over the last few years to ride, including Italy, Portugal, Costa Rica and Morocco.

Surfing & The Ocean
-
I have had a life-long love affair with the ocean. I learned to swim when I was four, to sail in my teens, and became a windsurfing fanatic in my twenties and thirties. In my forties I learned to surf and it has expanded my life exponentially, bringing me more joy than I could ever have imagined.
I have traveled the world in pursuit of waves and new horizons: Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Australia, France, and Portugal Surfing has deepened my connection to nature and the natural world and has allowed me to connect to a force much larger than myself.

The ocean engages all of my senses. Her beauty, power, and ever-changing presence never cease to captivate and inspire me. The exhilaration, freedom, and expansion I feel in the water..all find their way into my paintings through movement, color, gesture, and emotion.

Travel
-
I cannot remember a year in my whole life where i didn’t go on at least one major trip. I have had the good fortune to live in Germany, Kenya, Paris, New York, London and for the last 35 years in Los Angeles. Travel has always expanded my sense of possibility. I am drawn to places where I can wander without a plan — discovering unexpected beauty in the architecture, landscapes, and the people and stories held within them.

Experiencing different cultures and environments feeds my curiosity and deepens my understanding of color, texture, rhythm, and place. These impressions become part of the visual language I bring back to the studio.
